Ja taas mua viedään! Jazza julkaisi YouTube-kanavallaan kuukausittaisen haasteensa, jossa tällä kertaa pyydettiin yhdistämään perinteinen ja digitaalinen media keskenään. Koska olen noita sekateknisiä töitä viime aikoina vääntänyt, tuntui se kuin luodulta mulle, vaikkei haasteessa juuri sitä pyydettykään. Mutta mitä sekatekniikalle tapahtuikaan?

Mikäli olisin pysynyt alkuperäisessä suunnitelmassani ja naittanut nämä kaksi mediaa toisilleen (kirjaimellisesti), niin olisin varmasti tehnytkin pohjapiirroksen paperille ja sitten värittänyt työn koneella. Vaan idea ontui jo luonnoksena niin pahasti, että päädyin sitten tekemään muuta.

Uudessa työssäni, eli tuossa jonka luonnoksia yläpuolella näette, yhdistin kaksi mediaa toisin. Tuo on ehkä eniten sitä tunnelmaa, joka mulla on aina ollut digitaalisen piirtämisen suhteen, eli että se on aivan vierasta, kuin toiselta planeetalta. Tutustumisen kautta siitä on kuitenkin tullut helpompaa ymmärtää. Jopa niin paljon, että pistin sen paiskaamaan kättä perinteisten tekniikoiden kanssa! Ei se varmsti koskaan korvaa sitä mitä kynä ja paperi mulle, perinteisten välineiden puolestapuhujana, edustaa mutta tulee se hyvänä kakkosena kuitenkin.

Koitin saada työhöni jotain maalauksellisuutta, vaikka sen täysin koneella teinkin. Yritin myös kovasti luoda eri tekstuureita, koska siinä mulla on eniten digipiirtämisessä puutteita. Tätä oli hauska, mutta haastava piirtää.

Here I go again! When Jazza released April's Challenge of the Month theme on his YouTube channel I thought I must take part in this again! He asked artists to depict the combining of traditional and digital media which I thought would fit me perfectly since I've drawn these mixed media drawings for some while now. But what happened to that technique!?

Well, if I would've stayed in my original plan and drawn "tradigital wedding" I would've probably made the line-art on paper and then colored it in Photoshop but that idea just sucked so I ditched it. Then I opened Photoshop and started drawing something else...

Which is the digital painting you see above, or at least its work-in-progress pictures. I think that shows the feeling I had before about drawing digitally. It felt strange and difficult but after spending some time with it it didn't feel that bad anymore. I even made it shake hands with my traditional techniques! It will never replace pen and paper for me though.

In my work I went after a painting kind of look. I also tried my best to create different textures because that's where I lack the most when it comes to digital drawing. I found this fun but challenging to draw.

386. Pintaa Syvemmällä / Below the Surface

Tämä on minun panokseni deviantArtin järjestämään kisaan nimeltä 'The SPLIT Shattered Self Contest'. Kilpailutyön tulisi kuvastaa sisäistä konfliktia. Inspiraation sai ottaa elokuvasta nimeltä 'SPLIT'', tai ammentaa omista kokemuksistaan. Katsottuani kyseisen (kauhu)elokuvan tajusin heti, että sen jakomielitautiseen maailmaan en osaisi samaistua, joten keksin sitten jotain muuta.

Onhan nimittäin Pinta VS. Sisinkin sisäinen konflikti. :) Ensin mietiskelin perinteistä hyvän ja pahan taistelua, mutta päädyin kuitenkin kuvastamaan sitä tilaa kun sanotaan kaiken olevan okei, vaikka sisimmässä myllertää. Siispä piirsin naamion, jonka taakse kätkeytyy kokonainen tehdas! Siellä käsitellään ajatukset, muistot, tunteet, unohdukset... KAIKKI! Ja vieläpä ihan yhden ihmisen voimin. Naamio on alkanut rapautua, joten tehtaalla on täyshulina. Sisin ei saa paljastua, joten työntekijän on kiirudtettava korjaamaan rikkeimää...

Tein töitä tämän piirroksen kimpussa muutaman päivän ja nyt vain toivon ettei se ole liian tumma muiden näytöille, haha! Tarkistin kyllä tilanteen puhelimen näytöllä, joka tuppaa tummentamaan tummia kuvia entisestään, ja siinä tärkein näkyi ihan hyvin. Vaan ei sitä ikinä tiedä... No, sanoma tullee selväksi, ja kunhan tuli nyt valmista jälkeä niin pääsee tekemään muitakin töitä. :)

Ensi viikolla voisi olla luvassa tutoriaali perinteisen viivapiirroksen muuttamisesta digimaalattavaksi pohjaksi!

PS. Toinen kilpailutyö viikon sisällä! Mitä ihmettä? Jollakulla on kevättä rinnassa...

This is my contribution to deviantArt's contest 'The SPLIT Shattered Self Contest'.

One's entry is supposed to convey the idea of internal conflict. The contest is inspired by the movie called 'SPLIT' where the main character, Kevin, has several personalities but you could also use your own experiences to depict the subject. I watched the movie and thought immediately that I couldn't relate to that kind of internal battle so I took my own experiences and emotions and managed to draw something like this!

I had different ideas of the battle of good and evil at first but then I started to think the idea of Surface VS. Inner self. How many times we might say we're fine though we're feeling rubbish inside? We seem okay though there's lots going on inside our mind... So I drew a mask, the surface, and a single-handedly run Factory of Emotions, Thoughts and Memories behind it. The mask has started to tear apart so the factory is in full alarm. It must be repaired before anyone sees what hides behind the mask. So the lonely worker rushes to save the facade...

I hope the piece isn't too dark on other screens. I checked it on my phone which tends to darken dark pictures even more and it looked okay there so I encouraged myself to upload this online. I've worked on this for several days already and felt like I couldn't do anything else to it. I know it's not perfect but I've learnt to say this to myself (thanks to couple of YouTube artists): FINISHED, NOT PERFECT. I think it provides my thought well enough. I don't usually even take part in these contests but this time I thought I actually have something to say about it so I gave it a go. :)

Next week I might make a tutorial of preparing a traditional line-art drawing for digital coloring!

PS. The 2nd contest piece within a week! Wow, someone is in fire!

Sain kuin sainkin itseni piirtämään kuluneella viikolla. Kiitos siitä kuuluu haasteelle, jonka youtubettaja Jazza heitti kanavallaan. Sen aiheena on 'Lord of the Hogwarts', tai kuten itse sen suomensin 'Taru Tylypahkan Herrasta'. Sekä Harry Potterin että Taru Sormusten Herrasta tarinoiden fanina mun oli pakko tarttua tähän!

Yllä näette piirrustusprosessini eri vaiheita. Mulla oli useampikin aihe mitä oisin voinut piirtää, mutta kun piti valita vain yksi ja tuo houkutteli jotenkin eniten, niin sillä mentiin. :D Valmiin kuvan voi käydä tsekkaamassa täällä.

Kisaan on vielä aikaa osallistua, joten jaan videon jolla haaste on esitetty. Se löytyy tuolta alhaalta. Saman videon kautta pääsette myös tutkailemaan Jazzan kanavaa halutessanne. Voin suositella!

I managed to get myself drawing! Thanks to Jazza who challenged artists on his YouTube channel. This month's theme is 'Lord of the Hogwarts' and as a fan of both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings sagas I felt like I have to take this challenge!

Here I share some work-in-process pictures. I had several ideas which I could've drawn but since I had to pick one and this appealed to me the most I chose this one. :D The final version you can check here.)

383. Potilas Luna / Luna the Patient

Tällaisia piirroksia syntyi tänään!

Luna parka sairastui viime viikolla kohtutulehdukseen ja joutui lauantaina leikkaukseen, jossa kohtu poistettiin kokonaan. Kaikki meni loppujen lopuksi hyvin, mutta kyllähän se säikäytti kun tajusi lauantaiaamuna ensimmäiseksi missä mennään...

Nyt sitten koitetaan viettää rauhallista potilasarkea, että haava pysyisi kiinni ja kunnossa. Luna on kuin koko haavaa ei olisikaan, mutta osaa kyllä silti käyttää potilauttaan hyväkseen. Potilaalle pitäisi ehdottomasti syöttää paljon herkkuja ja osoittaa erityishuomiota, kuten syöttää puuroa lusikalla ja pitää sylissä kun nukuttaa. Lääkkeet ja kauluri on tietenkin ihan kamalia, mutta niille nyt ei voi mitään.

Mielenkiinnolla tässä seurailen mitä kaikkea koiraneidin mieleen vielä juolahtaa. Erityisesti siksi että tänään sillä oli ikään kuin valeraskauden oireita. Hormonit sekaisin..?

Toivotaan pikaista paranemista! :)

This is what I managed to draw today.

My dog, Luna, got sick last week and had to go trough a surgery on Saturday. Her uterus got infected and had to be removed. Everything went well but that was a rough day for us all!

Now I try to keep Luna calm so that the wound would heal well. It's a bit difficult since Luna doesn't seem to know anything about the wound. She understands that the situation is a bit weird and takes an advantage of it to the fullest. The patient would like to eat treats only and get special care and attention. She hates the collar and taking medicine but those she just has to stand for a while.

I'm interested to see what else she figures out to do because of this situation, especially because today she took care of her toys like they were her puppies. Hormones all over the place..?

Anyway, I wish fast recovery for her! :)

376. Luonnoslehtiöstä / From my sketchbook

Tätä oli ihan älyttömän hauska piirtää!

Kuva on luonnoslehtiöstäni, johon rupesin eräänä päivänä piirtämään toriaukeaa. No, se tuli piirrettyä niin pieneen tilaan toisen luonnoksen alapuolelle että päätin jättää sen ja piirtää toisen kaupunkikuvan uudelle sivulle. Tuollainen siitä sitten tuli.

Tätä piirtäessä ja värittäessä meni mukavasti muutama ilta. Annoin mennä rennolla kädellä, jotta hauskuus säilyi. Tämä oli vähän kuin semmoinen aikuisten värityskuva, mutta ei läheskään niin psykedeelinen ja nipo kuin monet kaupassa myytävien värityskirjojen kuvista. :))

Muutakin tuli tämän jälkeen piirrettyä, mutta ne voitte käydä katsomassa mun Insta-tililtä.

This was so much fun to draw!

The image is from my sketchbook. One day I started to draw a picture of a market place but unfortunately I drew it in so small space that I had to leave it. No harm done since I managed to draw that on next page!

Drawing and coloring this kept me busy for a good while. I kept the creating process fun and easy. The coloring process reminded me of coloring books. This wasn't as psychedelic and precise as those adults' coloring book images though. Lol!

I was on fire and drew other things too but those you can check from my Instagram account.

375. Rauhallinen iltapäivä / A Peaceful Afternoon

Oikein hyvää uutta vuotta 2017 kaikille!

DoNichi-Artin ensimmäinen taidepostaus on eräänlainen harjoitustyö.

Oon monet kerrat ihastellut YouTubessa taiteilijoita, jotka kastelee paperin ja vain sipaisee väriä sinne tänne, ja yhtäkkiä niillä on edessä upea maalaus joka näyttää kaikelta muulta kuin värien hallitsemattomalta leviämiseltä ympäri paperia. Yritin siis kovasti tehdä itsekin niin, mutta kas kummaa kun löysinkin itseni taas korjailemasta ja tarkentamasta ääriviivoja yms.!

Onhan siinä virheitäkin, mutta maalaustekninen harjoitus oli nyt selvästi tärkeämpää. Tunnelmaltaan työ on aika lähelle sitä mitä hainkin.

Happy New Year everyone!

The first art-piece of 2017 is kind of an experience.

For several times I've watched videos of watercolor artists on YouTube and admired how they work with the media. They wet the paper and put the color here and there and voilá - they have a beautiful painting in front of them! Though the colors have spread uncontrollably on the paper the result looks everything else.

I tried to do that too. But I failed! First I did exactly what the other artists did but then I started correcting colors and sharpening the edges etc. This is so me, hahah!

As a practice this is just fine. There're mistakes but I learned something new while working so it's okay. I like the atmosphere myself the best.
