396. Vanha kaupunki / Old town

Unohdin sitten tyystin päivittää blogin viime viikolla... Ei ihme, sillä mulla on ollut paljon mielen päällä.

Suurimpana asiana mielessä on oman yrityksen perustaminen ihan tässä lähitulevaisuudessa. Se on samaan aikaan jännittävää, pelottavaa ja innostavaa. Yrityksen pyörittäminen tulee teettämään alkuun paljon töitä ja epävarmuus töiden löytämisestä kalvaa, mutta eniten olen ehkä kuitenkin innoissani. Pääsen tekemään töitä oman intohimoni parissa. :)

Tiedossa on myös roadtrippi Pohjois-Norjaan. Sitä odotan kuin kuuta nousevaa! Edellinen reissu on syöpynyt muistoihini ikimuistoisena kokemuksena, joten on mahtava päästä samoihin maisemiin takaisin.

Tulevat kiireet tarkoittavat nykyarvioni mukaan sitä, että tämä blogi lopettaa toimintansa. En aio poistaa blogia kokonaan, mutta päivitykset jäävät jossain vaiheessa pois. Koitan vielä pari-kolme viikkoa päivittää, että saisin reissukuvat ja yrityksen alkutaipaleen tänne talteen. Tämä tekee minut hieman haikeaksi. On tätä blogia tullut sen verran ahkerasti ja pitkään pyöritettyä. Mutta ei hyvästellä vielä vaan vasta sitten viikkojen päästä!

I forgot to make an update last week! No wonder though, since I've had loads going trough my mind...

The biggest thing that occupies my mind is setting up my own creative business. It will happen very soon and it's both exciting and scary for me. I don't know what to expect except lots of work and uncertainty but I'm still kinda excited. I get to do my favorite thing anyway! :)

Other thing is a road trip to Northern Norway which I can't wait! The first trip I made there with my friend was great so I can't wait to get back there.

All this busy stuff means - at least I assume so - that this blog will stop at some point. I try to make updates few more weeks so that I get my trip and the story of my business' beginning here but then I'll concentrate on other things. I won't delete this blog, just stop updating. It makes me a bit sad since I've had this blog for ages... But I still have some weeks left so let's not cry yet! :)

Today you can check one of my painting sessions result. The scenery is from Stockholm's old town. It's a very loose painting style, kinda therapeutic. :)

394. Pieni Merenneito / A Little Mermaid

"Mermayn" kunniaksi syntyi tällainen merenneito-maalaus.

En ole sen kummemmin ottanut selville Mermayn tarkoitusta, mutta nimi on sanaleikki merenneitoa ja toukokuuta tarkoittavista englannin sanoista 'mermaid' ja 'May'. Huomasin vain kun yhtäkkiä joka toinen taiteilija alkoi postaamaan kuvan merenneidosta. Mukava juttu kyllä, sillä merenneidot ovat kiehtovia otuksia!

Oman työni inspiraationa tuon trendin lisäksi toimivat tarina pienestä merenneidosta ja Rudolf Koivun kuvitukset. Koitin samalla opetella käyttämään vähemmän vettä vesiväreillä maalatessani. Minä kun tuppaan lutraamaan sen kanssa aivan liikaa. :D

Since it seems to be "Mermay" I painted a little mermaid!

I have no idea where this mermay trend came from but suddenly I noticed every other artist posting a painting/drawing of a mermaid and writing the hashtag mermay after it. I loved the theme and the wordplay, though! 

My piece got its inspiration from the trend, of the story of Little Mermaid and from Finnish artist's, Rudolf Koivu's, illustrations. I used this painting as a lesson with watercolors. I always use so much water that I tried to avoid that this time. :D

375. Rauhallinen iltapäivä / A Peaceful Afternoon

Oikein hyvää uutta vuotta 2017 kaikille!

DoNichi-Artin ensimmäinen taidepostaus on eräänlainen harjoitustyö. 

Oon monet kerrat ihastellut YouTubessa taiteilijoita, jotka kastelee paperin ja vain sipaisee väriä sinne tänne, ja yhtäkkiä niillä on edessä upea maalaus joka näyttää kaikelta muulta kuin värien hallitsemattomalta leviämiseltä ympäri paperia. Yritin siis kovasti tehdä itsekin niin, mutta kas kummaa kun löysinkin itseni taas korjailemasta ja tarkentamasta ääriviivoja yms.! 

Onhan siinä virheitäkin, mutta maalaustekninen harjoitus oli nyt selvästi tärkeämpää. Tunnelmaltaan työ on aika lähelle sitä mitä hainkin.

Happy New Year everyone!

The first art-piece of 2017 is kind of an experience.

For several times I've watched videos of watercolor artists on YouTube and admired how they work with the media. They wet the paper and put the color here and there and voilá - they have a beautiful painting in front of them! Though the colors have spread uncontrollably on the paper the result looks everything else.

I tried to do that too. But I failed! First I did exactly what the other artists did but then I started correcting colors and sharpening the edges etc. This is so me, hahah!

As a practice this is just fine. There're mistakes but I learned something new while working so it's okay. I like the atmosphere myself the best.

348. Vesivärimaalaus / Watercolor painting

Pitkästä aikaa olen tarttunut vesiväreihini. Taisin maalata niillä viimeksi maaliskuussa ja siltä se kyllä tuntuukin! Maalaaminen on tuskaisaa, ja tuntuu ettei muuta teekään kuin virheitä.

Yllä oleva työ ei ole täydellinen, mutta ajattelin kuitenkin jakaa sen, koska on siinä jotain hyvääkin (eikä minulla ole aikaa tehdä toista maalausta, öhöm...). Naisen asento on pielessä, mutta tykkään tautan "ikkunasta". Naisen ilmekin on nyt paljon parempi kuin jossain välissä maalausprosessia. :)

Olen pitkin viikkoa katsonut maalausvideoita YouTubessa ja miettinyt miten helpolta se näyttää. Liekö siitä innostuinkin ottamaan maalit taas esille... Mutta ei lannistuta! Jospa sitä pääsisi vielä itsekin siihen pisteeseen, että maalaaminen on hauskaa.

After long and painful hours I have this painting to represent to you. It's been a while since I painted with watercolors...

This is not my best work but I thought I'd still share it. It's not all bad anyway. What pains me the most is that I messed up her pose... I like the background though, and her expression is way better than it was few moments ago. Something positive! :)

I think I got fooled by YouTube videos where the painting process looked so easy and fun. It made me find my paints and try what I would come up with them. It turned out to be a disaster yet but I won't give up! I have to keep practicing, that's all.

Mistä näitä ideoita putkahteleekaan!? Kaikki taisi saada alkunsa englannin kielen sudenkorentoa (dragonfly) tarkoittavasta sanasta... No joka tapauksessa, tämä on kiitos kävijämäärästä, joka on nyt jo yli 17 000! Vau ja iso KIITOS teille!

Tähän samaan syssyyn ilmoitan että DoNichi-Art järjestää maaliskuussa historiansa toisen Feature-kuukauden. Eli minä annan aiheen mistä luoda jotain ja sitten vain luodaan ja tuodaan se kaikki tänne blogiin esille! Aihe on tällä kertaa light eli valo. Toteutustapa on vapaa, eli saa ottaa valokuvan/maalata/piirtää/veistää/muovata/kirjoittaa...mikä nyt tuntuu luontevimmalta kenellekin. Lisää tietoa (englanniksi) olen rustannut tuonne > Feature March.
Toivottavasti moni taiteilija innostuu ja saadaan DoNichi-Artin neljävuotissynttäreille paljon nättiä taidetta näytille! :)

Where do these ideas come from!? I think this came just from word 'dragonfly'... Anyway, this is my thank you for you! The view rate has now exceeded 17,000 which amazes me really! Thank you!

Then the announcement: DoNichi-Art is arranging a Feature-event on March! There artists create something from the given theme and I share those creations here during March. The theme is light and you can present it any way you're the most comfortable with: take a photo, paint, draw, sculpt, write... More information can be found there > Feature March.
I hope to get many enthusiastic artists take part in it so that we can make DoNichi-Art's 4th birthday a bit more awesome! :)

Kuvan inspiraation lähteenä oli manhwa, korealainen sarjakuva, jota innostuin lueskelemaan viikolla netissä. Halusin kokeilla josko pystyisin jäljittelemään värien heleyttä ja hehkua, mutta jo mietiskellessäni mitä värejä tulisin käyttämään tajusin ettei se heleys saattaisi ehkä jäädä. No, kasvoissa onnistuin mielestäni säilyttämään tämän ominaisuuden, vaikkei se muualla ehkä niin onnistunutkaan. Olen kuitenkin suhteellisen tyytyväinen lopputulokseen.

Aihe tuli parhaillaan valloillaan olevasta pakkasesta. Aivan käsittämätöntä että on yhtäkkiä -28 astetta pakkasta! Pysykäähän terveinä! :)

Here comes a post to thank you for 16,000 views! Thank you!

The inspiration for this came from manhwa, the Korean cartoon style. I happened to find one very nice webtoon this week and I started to think if I could copy the way its pages are colored. They have this certain glow in them. I understood pretty quickly that I couldn't make it with this picture but I was okay with it. I'm happy with the picture anyway, especially with her face.

The wintery subject I got from the cold. It's been -28 Celsius degrees today, brr!

286. Hyvää uutta vuotta! / Happy New Year!

DoNichiArt toivottaa kaikille oikein hyvää alkanutta uutta vuotta! :)

Koska vuosi 2016 on kiinalaisessa horoskoopissa apinan vuosi, niin tässäpä on apina-taidetta!
Kiinalainen uusi vuosihan alkaa vasta helmikuun alussa, mutta koska inspiroiduin aiheesta jo nyt niin tarjoan kuvan jo tässä vaiheessa. Apinat on kyllä symppiksiä eläimiä, heh!
Kuvassa on kultaleijona-apina poikasineen.

Kuten huomata saattaa niin blogini on saanut uuden ulkoasun. Toivottavasti miellyttää! Ainakin tuota yläpalkin kuvaa oli ihan todella hauska suunnitella.
Päätin myös että tästä lähin blogi saa päivittyä minä päivänä vain, ei vain viikonloppuisin. Blogin nimeä en lähde siitä huolimatta vaihtamaan, sillä olen jo tottunut DoNichiArtiin - ja niin varmaan tekin. Nimihän sai alkunsa japaninkielen sanoista "doyoubi" ja "nichiyoubi", eli lauantai ja sunnuntai, koska päätin päivittää blogia nimenomaan viikonloppuisin. Nyt sitten irtaudun tästä perinteestä ja annan taiteen tulla silloin kun siltä tuntuu. :)

Ja näin on polkaistu uusi vuosi blogi-postausten sarallakin käyntiin! Tervetuloa mukaan uudet ja vanhat lukijat!

Since 2016 is the year of monkey in Chinese horoscope I decided to paint monkeys. Golden lion tamarin to be exact. Chinese new year starts in the beginning of February but since my year starts today and I got inspired now I post this already.
Monkeys are such a sympathetic animals, heh!

You also notice that I changed the outlook here! I hope you like it. I had so much fun while designing the header image! I will also change the update system here. See, in the beginning I decided to update the blog only during the weekend and even named the blog after Japanese words for Saturday and Sunday. From now on I will update whenever I feel like it during the week. The name will stay, though!

And so have I started another year of blogging! Welcome old and new readers!
