Unfortunately today's art-tip has no picture but I'll add it later!

Toistaiseksi viimeinen taidevinkki kuuluu näin. 12: Harjoittele, harjoittele, harjoittele!

***

Here goes the last art-tip so far. 12:  Practice, practice, practice!

I never get enough of saying this! xD I'll also add that don't give up too easily! When you keep on practicing you'll eventually get the result you've been aiming for!

Taidevinkki nro.

Art-tip #11: You can never please everyone. Don't take all the critic personally.

It's like in life in general - you can't please everyone.
This art-tip is maybe more for those who draw a lot for fun or who want to draw for their profession because this tip applies to style issues which you have to think more when you draw more. Then you start to look for your "own thing" artistically, your own style. Style is something that either pleases the viewer or not. In this case it's pointless to argue about matter of taste because if the viewer doesn't like your style then he/she can just watch elsewhere. :)
It's good to learn to notice when the critique is about the style and when it's about technical issues, for example anatomy and perspective. If someone came to me and told me that the perspective is drawn wrong in my drawing I'd definitely explore my work again and think about it, but if that person told me that he/she doesn't like the lines I've drawn I'd let that comment go in from one ear and come out from the other. I respect everyone's opinion but it doesn't have to affect on my work any way if I don't want to.
If the style that you've chosen feels good to yourself then keep on creating even though someone else doesn't like it. Do your own thing and be happy about it! I'm sure that you're not the only one who likes it anyway. :)

Unfortunately today's art-tip has no picture but I'll add it later!

Taidevinkki nro.

Heheh!

***

Art-tip #1: It's okay to take a look while drawing but don't be a copycat. By taking a look you'll learn to make your own art but by copying you'll just make someone else's work again.

I take a look a lot in both style and techniques but I never copy someone else's work intentionally. It'd be a crime and wrong against both myself and the other artist.
I understand that it's almost impossible to create something that someone else hasn't already done but it's still different if you copy someone's work line by line. I also understand it among kids but among adults it's a bit questionable.
When it comes to copyrights it's okay to draw, for example, a person in exactly the same pose than in someone else's drawing but you still must change something in it to avoid making a crime. Draw the person a different kind of face, clothes and/or background and then it'll be a new piece of art.

Use your own imagination! Learn things! Do your own thing! ;)

PS. If you happen to be drawing an anime character or anything based on someone else's work at the moment - go ahead! Just don't start selling someone else's work with your name on it. Heh!

Unfortunately today's art-tip has no picture but I'll add it later!

Taidevinkki nro.

Luomisen iloa kaikille!

Art-tip #9: You can look for help for different poses from the internet or by taking a picture of yourself / your kind assistant.

So get up and start posing! xD Google's picture search is as good help though...
Many times for example hands are difficult to draw right but if you use your or someone else's hands as a model you'll get the proportions and posture pretty much right on paper too. When you see the hands in a picture or live it gives you a hint how the hands really look in the certain pose.

Have fun creating!

Vinkki nro. 8: Piirtäessäsi ilmeitä kokeile tehdä ilme itsekin. Missä ilme kasvoilla vaikuttaa? Mihin tulevat rypyt?

***

Art-tip #8: When drawing expressions try them yourself, too. If you smile where does it affect on your face? Where're the wrinkles and what happens to your cheeks?

I know that I make expressions when I draw. I think it's easier to draw the certain face if you make the expression yourself. :D In time you'll memorize the moods though so it's not necessary to confuse the possible attendants any more. xD

Art-tip #7: Try different media. It's fun and taughtful!

This tip fits for both amateurs and more experienced artists in my opinion. I had to think for a while if I can say so but I think I can. :D When you've just started drawing/painting more it's good to try different media because that way you'll find your own favourite more efficiently. For experienced artists it's good way to refresh oneself.
It's also great how you'll learn to mix different medias when you've tried several of them. :)

6:s taidevinkki: Virkistäydy luonnostelemalla kaikkea mahdollista. Kaiken ei tarvitse olla niin vakavaa. :)

The 6th art-tip: Have fun doodling! Everything doesn't have to be so serious. :)

We doodle usually when we're preparing ourselves for a new art-piece. We try to ensure that the drawing/painting turns out fine. I usually make a tiny sketch on paper before I draw a single line on the actual canvas.
But I don't mean only that kind of doodling here, I mean doodling e v e r y t h i n g possible. Draw with pencils which you can't erase, try different kind of styles, go wild! When it's a doodle mistakes don't matter. :)
I doodle the most when I'm lazy to start anything bigger but still want to keep the inspiration alive. I try to doodle even when he inspiration is hiding because I might find it while I'm on it. Doodling is - at least for me - also the most effective way to kill the over-flowing self-criticism so drawing will feel smoother after that.

The best thing about doodling is that you don't need lots of equipment with you. Small piece of paper and a pen is enough. :) Happy doodling!

Vinkki nro.

Jee!

Iloista sunnuntaita!

Here's the art-tip number 5: Prefer small changes. It's easier to add color than erase it and moving a line even 1-2 millimetres makes a difference!

In this post I'm also apologizing how I forgot the Double-art weekend couple of weeks ago. Sorry! I hope the drawings I've made for these art-tip posts reduces the pain it have caused, hehe! :D I'm also announcing that art-tips will continue till summer since I still have few of them planned!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Neljäs taidevinkki kuuluu seuraavasti: Loputon korjaaminen on turhaa. Ole valmis aloittamaan alusta. :)

Jälleen kerran voin kokemuksen syvällä rintaäänellä sanoa että on todellakin parempi aloittaa kokonaan alusta, kuin hangata paperi kumilla puhki tai saada vain sottaista aikaiseksi korjaamalla värejä tuhanteen kertaan.

***

Fourth art-tip goes like this: Endless fixing is vain. Be ready to start all over again. :)

Once again I can say that I have lots of experience in this! It's definitely better to start again than rub a hole on the paper or mess the colors by adding new colors layer after layer.

Taidevinkki nro.

***

The art-tip number 3: Have breaks. You'll notice possible mistakes better if you don't stare your art-piece non-stop.

The eye will become desensitized to errors. It has happened to me so many times that now I know what to do differently. Before making the finishing touches I take some distance to the art-piece I'm working on. I do something totally different for a while and come back to the art-piece and look it with new eyes.
It's also good to take some physical distance to your current piece time to time because that also will help you to notice possible mistakes. If you look your drawing all the time from close it's possible that the proportions get wrong. So take the distance both mentally and physically time to time and the result will be better.

Mistakes are difficult to avoid 100% but if you can dodge the biggest anatomical and perspective mistakes the minor mistakes won't matter that much. It doesn't have to be that serious anyway! :)

Tänään vaihdetaan vähän järjestystä, koska haluan huomenna toivottaa hyvää äitienpäivää kaikille äideille. :)

Joten tänään kuuluu siit taidevinkki nro. 2! Se menee näin: Valaise työpisteesi hyvin. Näin säästät silmiäsi ja saat värit oikein jne. Tästä ei ole oikeastaan sen enempää sanottavaa. :D

Hyvää lauantainjatkoa!

***

I change the posts' order this weekend because I want to celebrate Mother's Day tomorrow.

So today I share the second art-tip! It goes like this: Light your work space well. This way you spare your eyes and get the colors right etc. This is all I'm going to say today. :D

Have a nice Saturday!
